A New Format for a Beloved Story
The original chapter book, published in 2011 as the fourth title in Tarshis’s long-running I Survived series, has introduced countless young readers to major historical events through the eyes of resilient child protagonists. This graphic novel edition, released around July 2026, brings the story of 11-year-old Danny Crane to vivid life with dynamic artwork by Peter Wartman and text adapted by Georgia Ball.
Danny, a tough New York City kid recently relocated to Pearl City, Hawaii, is determined to return home—even if it means stowing away. On the morning of December 7, 1941, his plans collide with history as Japanese planes attack Pearl Harbor. Bombs fall, ships burn, and Danny must navigate chaos, fear, and survival on “the day that will live in infamy.”
Like other books in the I Survived Graphix line, this edition pairs high-stakes storytelling with a nonfiction back section featuring historical facts and photos, making it both gripping and educational.
